Review: Tostitos Flour Tortilla Chips

One day last week I was running through Walmart and saw these on an endcap. I had heard about them and was interested in trying them so I picked up a bag. I believe they were $3, which I did find to be on the high side, since the bag is rather small.

The chips are also on the small side compared to what I consider regular tortilla chips. They are also considerably thicker. On the first bite I was certain that I had just wasted $3. Something didn't seem right. However, I couldn't resist eating another chip. Still, something seemed off. After finishing off a handful of chips I figured it out. These are not your regular tortilla chips.

They are alright on their own as a snack but I think these would be best used as a dipping chip. They are on the thick side and would not break under heavy dips. They are different and take some getting used to; but all and all they are pretty good.

Another thing that surprised me is that they are nearly identical to the Restaurant Style Tostitos in terms of nutritional stats. They have the same serving size, calories, fat, carbs, and protein which is odd since the Flour Tortilla Chips have a whole lot more ingredients.

Unless you want a chip thats significantly different than the standard tortilla chip, I would pass on these. Sorry Tostitos, they're alright, but not up my alley.

I disagree. These chips are really delicious.

For a long time, I craved the flour tortilla chips that I once enjoyed in an authentic Mexican restaurant. Here in small town USA, it's difficult to find anything much out of the ordinary in Mexican food. Corn tortillas were all that I could locate in the stores. Then, to my surprise, I recently found these flour chips.

They're great, and I'd highly recommend them!

These are great, not greasy and the flavor doesn't fight with any dip. Seemed less salty to all of my guests. I am having a hard time findin a store tht carries them in my area.

Yeah flour tortillas chips! I'm so tired of corn chips. I hope they taste decent... Hasn't been since Keebler's Chacho's, and they stopped making them shortly after...

I was just about to write about how I missed the Keebler Cinnamon Crispas flour tortilla chips on my blog! I tried these and they are not as good as the Keebler ones that were discontinued in 2006. It was a good try though. They are delicious with spinach dip!

After all the nice things said about Tostitos Flour Tortilla Chips, Frito-Lay has decided to quit manufacturing the product at their large midwest plant. The Dillon's (Kroger) grocery store manager said they were a good selling product. Here's another example of a poor decision by corporate management. Does anyone know whether they are still available anywhere else?

This is horrible news...corn chips make me very sick - i used to have to make my own flour chips at home but then they came out with these and it was great! They are the best thing out there for a dipping chip (seriously I can't say better than corn, but when you can still eat salsa and chili dip and nachos without having to make your own chips it is wonderful! I took them to every party and always had them in the house - I have half a bag left in a ziplock baggie for the game tonight... :( wonder if another company makes something similar?

These go great with a spicy hummus product from Dillons! And now I can't get them anymore. Can they still be ordered?

The fact is Frito-Lays has discontinued production of this product in many parts of the country! If you want this product back on grocery shelves YOU MUST CONTACT FRITO-LAY headquarters in Dallas and request they start production again. This is a product that many people liked AND bought. Make Frito-Lay explain to you WHY they quit production of a product that was selling! Their decision makes no sense!!

FOR ALL WHO ARE INTERESTED IN TOSTITOS FLOUR TORTILLA CHIPS, HERE IS THE OFFICIAL RESPONSE FROM FRITO-LAY........

"Thank you for writing to us. We're sorry to report that Tostitos Flour have recently been discontinued. Please know your comments will be shared with our sales and marketing teams for any future consideration.

When you take into account the tremendous variety of preferences, not every product does equally well, and occasionally one is discontinued. The decision to discontinue a product is difficult and is made only after considerable research has shown that interest in the product is too low to keep it on the shelves.

Thanks again for sharing your comments with us. We hope that one of our other snacks will satisfy your taste buds."

Best regards,

Tina

I too loved the flour chips. They were better with cherry and peach salsa than the corn chips. It is maddening that you can choose between countless brands and types of corn chips, but stores can't find room for the flour chips.

Please bring back these great flour tortilla chips! I have been searching for these chips for sometime now and wondered why they were not on the grocery shelves... only to discover that Frito Lay the manufacturer decide to discontinue making four tortilla chips...saying they were 'Poor Sellers'. How can Frito Lay make that statement when the stores could hardly keep them on their shelves..
